On Tuesday 2nd of August, 5/6K and 5/6R went on an excursion to the Victorian Institute of Sport as part of their Integrated Curriculum topic ‘Magnificent Me’.
At 9:00am we set off on our walk to Fawkner Station where we boarded the train to Southern Cross followed by a short tram ride down to Albert Park. We quickly had a snack next to the beautiful lake before our tour began at 11:30am.
We were lucky enough to have dual Paralympics Gold medallist Josh Hose (wheelchair basketball) and Under 19 Gold medal winner Sophie Taylor (women’s hockey) as our presenters for the day and all students were fully engaged with their stories and experiences as professional athletes.
Throughout the session the students were able to participate in some talent identification activities such as the ‘speed step’ and ‘vertical jump’ whilst also undertaking some special team building activities. We were shown around the world class facilities and Cedric, Lulu and Mr. Ricardi were lucky enough to have a race against Josh in the wheelchairs. The students got to have a hold of his gold medals which was a highlight for the day.
Overall the day was very enjoyable and all of our students represented the school brilliantly. They demonstrated all of the school values and should be very proud of themselves!
A huge thank you to Paula, Kim, Miss K and Miss M for their help throughout the day and to Miss Kelly and Mr. Ricardi for organising such a fantastic excursion.
